Near Predappio Alta, part of Predappio, lies a system of caves once used for sulphur extraction. Romagna, in fact, boasts a mining tradition going back to the early 1800s. From that golden age remain the tunnels cut into the rock and the life that developed within them: colonies of bats, stalactites, sulphurous waters and fossils. The former sulphur mines can be visited today over the Christmas period, when they host a striking mechanical nativity scene.

How this statement was prepared

Self-assessment by the people who build the site, last updated on 1 September 2026. This is not the statement that the Italian AgID guidelines require of public bodies, which Romagna.net is not: it is a commitment we make anyway.
