Republic of San Marino
San Marino is a republic and the third smallest country in Europe, after the Principality of Monaco and the Vatican City. It stands on Monte Titano, a rocky spur left by the break-up of an undersea plate two million years ago, set in hill country. Today the republic is a destination for visitors, above all those keen on shopping, who can take advantage of lighter taxation than in Italy. The currency is the euro.
