Province of Ravenna

The province of Ravenna borders the province of Ferrara to the north, the metropolitan city of Bologna to the west, the metropolitan city of Florence and the province of Forlì-Cesena to the south, and the Adriatic Sea to the east.

Ravenna is its capital, a city listed as a Unesco World Heritage site in 1996, capital of the western Roman empire and a treasury of early Christian buildings, mosaics and monuments.

The territory, 653 square kilometres, has many faces: a large area falls within the Po Delta park, towards the Cervia salt pans and the Adriatic Sea, where the Ravenna lidos open out, crossed by pine woods and wild beaches on one side and glamorous resorts such as Milano Marittima on the other.
To the south, towards the Vena del Gesso regional park, small villages are lodged in the green of the Apennines. Then there is Faenza and its ceramics, known the world over, the Roman baths of Riolo Terme, and finally Brisighella, with its amphitheatre of a valley producing a dop olive oil.
