Processo a Villa Torlonia is a sui generis cultural event based on the re-enactment of a historical episode, which changes every year. An event of significance to Romagna is chosen, and two prominent lawyers are appointed: one for the prosecution, the other for the defence. As in a real courtroom, arguments are debated, positions are argued, evidence is presented and, finally, the audience acts as the jury and delivers the verdict.
Good to know
- Entry to the event is free and it is held in August at Villa Torlonia.
- The episodes debated vary widely: subjects have included the murder of Giovanni Pascoli's father, the alleged chauvinism of the Vitelloni in Federico Fellini's film, and whether the legacy of Pellegrino Artusi and his 19th-century manual on home cooking still held up today.
