Quartiere ebraico La Giudecca
In the fourteenth century a Jewish community settled in Bertinoro. Traces of its presence and history survive in the Jewish quarter known as "La Giudecca". Between Via del Fossato and Via Mainardi, in the town's historic centre, stands the house that symbolises the quarter, which belonged to Leone ebreo in the early 1400s. It is a stone building with a plaque marking the points in the town where Jews were permitted to live, and several terracotta tiles depicting the Ner Tamid lamp (eternal light) and the cornucopia (horn of plenty). It is thought that the quarter also had a synagogue.
