Museo della Marineria

Here the story of seafaring in Cesenatico is told, with numerous exhibition rooms and a floating section where visitors can get close to the boats that made maritime history.

The Museo della Marineria in Cesenatico is divided between the Sezione a Terra (via Armellini) and the Sezione Galleggiante, along the Porto Leonardesco.
The Sezione a Terra is made up of several teaching and demonstration rooms where visitors can get close to seafaring activities and the materials used in boat building.
The Sezione Galleggiante is made up of 10 sailing boats typical of the northern Adriatic. There are examples of trabaccoli, battane, bragozzi, a paranza, a lancia and other sailing boats that plied these waters between the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th century.

Good to know

  • The Sezione a Terra also has exhibition spaces, including a reconstruction of a 19th-century boatbuilder’s workshop.
  • In the Sezione Galleggiante, alongside the boats, visitors can see the equipment once used for fishing and the decorations, such as the eyes painted on the bows for good luck and religious protection.
  • The boats’ sails come in different colours (shades of ochre yellow, orange, sienna, red) marking which fishing family each boat belonged to.
  • At Christmas time, the boats of the Sezione Galleggiante are used to stage the traditional Presepe della Marineria, a life-size Nativity scene.
  • The same entrance as the Sezione a Terra also leads to the Antiquarium Comunale, housed in Palazzo degli Anziani.
