Palazzo delle Poste
The Palazzo was commissioned by the Mussolini government and built between 1931 and 1932. It is a perfect example of how Fascism reshaped urban spaces and the very idea of civic decorum.
The Palazzo delle Poste is a historic building in Forlì overlooking Piazza Saffi. It was commissioned by the Mussolini government and built between 1931 and 1932, and is a perfect example of how Fascism reshaped urban spaces and the very idea of civic decorum. It has the typical nationalist style: a rectangular plan, an inner courtyard lighting the semicircular hall open to the public, a porticoed entrance and a facade with a double row of arches.
Good to know
- Several buildings on Piazza Saffi were demolished to make way for it.
- The original design included an elliptical fountain, which was built instead in the square in front of the railway station.
- Inside the Palazzo delle Poste there is a plaque in memory of the postal and telegraph workers killed in a bombing raid.
