Teatro Petrella

Set within the former Convento di San Girolamo, the Teatro Petrella is a small gem dating from the late 19th century. Opened in 1870, it was also used as the cinema of Longiano until 1905; the arrival of the world wars and bombing raids brought both performances and screenings to a long halt. The Teatro Petrella is a classic Italian-style theatre, with a horseshoe-shaped floor plan, two tiers of boxes and the gallery, for a total of 205 seats.

Good to know

  • Between the 1990s and the 2000s, word spread among Italian performers that opening a show at Teatro Petrella brought good luck. Actors competed to appear here, and the programme benefited, drawing prestigious names such as Dario Fo, Vittorio Gassman, Lella Costa, Alessandro Bergonzoni, Ludovico Einaudi, Lucio Dalla, Francesco De Gregori and Paolo Conte.
  • A mechanical system moves the stalls seating, bringing it level with the stage.
