Museo della città "Luigi Tonini"

The Museo della Città "Luigi Tonini" in Rimini stands in the historic centre, in a building constructed in the mid-18th century and used from 1797 to 1977 as the city hospital.
The museum preserves the historical memory of the city and its territory and is divided into several sections: on the ground floor is a permanent space dedicated to the Rimini-born artist René Grau and the room housing the Libro dei Sogni drawn by Federico Fellini, together with further drawings and sketches contained in two original volumes.
On the first and second floors is the Pinacoteca with works from the 12th to the 20th century, including paintings from the 14th-century Rimini School.
In the basement is the archaeological section where finds relating to the city of Rimini are displayed, from prehistory to the Roman period.

• The Museo della Città was only established in 1981; a first section opened in 1990, the second in 1994
• In the courtyard garden is the Lapidario Romano with inscriptions from the 1st century BC to the 4th century AD. Civil weddings can be held here
• The archaeological section displays 150 surgical instruments found at the nearby Domus del Chirurgo, which belonged to Eutyches, a military doctor who lived in the Roman era
• The museum's Sala del Giudizio houses an important fresco of the Last Judgement. It is used for cultural events, literary festivals and various public gatherings.
