Musei di San Domenico

The Complesso museale del San Domenico in Forlì occupies the rooms of a Dominican convent. Since 2007 the Musei di San Domenico have become a reference point for art lovers, who come to Forlì for exhibitions of real refinement and artistic value. Inside the Complesso museale del San Domenico is one of the three sites of the Pinacoteca civica di Forlì, named after Melozzo degli Ambrogi.

Good to know

• The complex is made up of five separate buildings: Sala Santa Caterina, Palazzo Pasquali, Convento dei Domenicani, Chiesa di San Giacomo Apostolo and Convento degli Agostiniani.
• The refectory holds a large, restored fresco with three scenes: the Crucifixion with Mary Magdalene, the Madonna and other figures, including the work's patron; and two scenes involving Saint Dominic (the apparition of Peter and Paul handing the staff and the Gospels to the Saint; Saint Dominic bringing Napoleone Orsini back to life after he died in a riding accident).
• The Complesso Museale di San Domenico houses 20 rooms of the Pinacoteca civica “Melozzo degli Ambrogi”. The collections range from religious icons to paintings by Palmezzano, taking in the crucifixions of Livio Agresti and the still lifes of Carlo Magini.
