Castello Malatestiano
This classic medieval defensive structure comprises a boundary wall, a moat with a drawbridge (later replaced by a stone bridge giving access to the inner courtyard), five bastions and the civic tower.
The Castello Malatestiano in Gatteo was built around the 13th century on the remains of an ancient Roman settlement. A classic medieval defensive structure, it consists of a boundary wall, a moat with a drawbridge (later replaced by a stone bridge giving access to the inner courtyard), 5 bastions and the civic tower. The boundary wall can be walked along a path built in the early 2000s.
Good to know
- It is the only Malatesta castle still standing on the plain north of Rimini.
