Museo di Saludecio e del Beato Amato

Established in 2001 in the Malatesta bastion attached to the church of San Biagio, the Museo di Saludecio e del Beato Amato tells the story of this town in the Valconca and its most illustrious figure: Amato Ronconi. Two rooms house 300 works, ranging from archaeological finds and sacred vestments to votive offerings and paintings, including one by Guido Cagnacci.

Good to know

  • Much of Saludecio's popular culture is linked to the figure of Amato Ronconi, who lived between 1226 and 1292. Born in Saludecio, he embraced the religious life as a young man, dedicating himself to caring for the poor and founding the Ospedale di Santa Maria di Monte Orciale.
  • The museum belongs to the parish of Saludecio.
  • Amato Ronconi, patron saint and protector of Saludecio, was canonised in 2014.
  • The works on display also include a set of particularly precious liturgical objects, made of silver and decorated by Roman goldsmiths in the 1700s.
  • During temporary exhibitions, and when no religious services are taking place, both the crypt and the sacristy can be visited on request. The crypt, in particular, is decorated with stuccowork by Antonio Trentanove, a leading exponent of the Baroque and Neoclassical styles, active around the turn of the 19th century.
