Teatro Angelo Mariani
A 17th-century theatre with beautiful chestnut-wood boxes and original decorations. A small artistic gem at the heart of the Montefeltro.
The Teatro Angelo Mariani in Sant'Agata Feltria has a long history. In the 17th century, on the ground floor of the town hall (then known as the Palazzone), a hall was built with a stage and a stalls area with wooden benches, used to stage comedies and other performances.
In 1723 the first box was built, and further boxes were added in later works.
Good to know
- Entry to the theatre is through a side entrance next to the stage; this is because it was created from a first-tier box.
- The theatre's supporting columns, the stage and the auditorium are made of chestnut wood.
- The curtain depicts a view of Sant'Agata Feltria, painted in the 19th century by Romolo Liverani.
