Pieve di San Michele Arcangelo

The Pieve di San Michele Arcangelo is the oldest place of worship in the province of Rimini. Built in the 6th century following the model of the churches of Ravenna, it still retains its austere character intact today: the interior is plain, and the altar rests on an Early Medieval boundary stone decorated with leaf motifs. The only decorative element is a fresco depicting San Sebastiano.

Good to know

  • Dating from the Byzantine period, it stands away from the historic centre of Santarcangelo.
  • The only item of value, a fourteenth-century wooden crucifix, was removed and is now kept in the Chiesa della Beata Vergine del Rosario.
  • The entrance door is in the tower.
