Piazza Tito Maccio Plauto

Dedicated to Sarsina's most illustrious citizen, Piazza Tito Maccio Plauto is the main square of this Apennine town. The area coincides with the ancient Foro Romano: finds and architectural elements discovered here suggest that this was the centre of the civitas. On one side of the square runs a row of arcaded buildings, while its centre is dominated by the Basilica di San Vicinio.

Good to know

  • Remains of the Foro Romano can be seen in the northern part of the square, accessible via a gallery.
  • On the eastern side of the square (visible from via Aurigemma) are the remains of a religious building.
