The Museo della Tortura in San Marino is housed in a historic palazzo, home to a collection of more than 100 instruments used to torture people between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Inquisitions and interrogations were often carried out using devices designed to inflict pain.

The Museo della Tortura in San Marino occupies a historic palazzo housing more than 100 instruments used to torture people between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Inquisitions and interrogations were, in fact, carried out in highly unorthodox ways, using objects designed to inflict pain. Among the devices on display are cages, a stretching rack, iron boots that were heated before being fitted, and a large collection of saws and pliers.
