Cinema Fulgor

The Cinema Fulgor is a symbol of Fellini's Rimini. Like other places in the city, the Fulgor became part of both the director's life and his films, and can be seen in many scenes of his work.

The Cinema Fulgor is a symbol of Fellini's Rimini. Like other places in the city, the Fulgor became part of both the life and the films of the Rimini-born director, and can indeed be seen in several of his films (Roma, Amarcord). But this cinema mattered for another reason too: it was here that Fellini saw his first film, and here that he nurtured his passion for cinema and for the fiction of human representation.

Reopened in January 2018, the restoration of the Cinema Fulgor took 5 years. Its new look is the work of Oscar-winning designer Dante Ferretti, who recreated a poetic, evocative space true to the spirit of Fellini's art, dominated by gold and warm red tones, rendered in velvet and Art Nouveau decoration.
At the Fulgor, Federico Fellini saw his first film, Maciste all’inferno, directed by Guido Brignone. He sat on his father's lap.
The original Cinema Fulgor was not in the current building, but nearby.
It is at the Fulgor that the protagonist of Amarcord has his encounter with the curvaceous Gradisca.
Federico Fellini used to draw caricatures of Hollywood stars in exchange for an admission ticket to the Fulgor. Those caricatures hung on the walls of the first, historic cinema.
