Vecchia Pescheria
In the heart of the historic centre stands a loggia that once housed the old fish market stalls of Rimini: today it's a lively spot full of trendy bars, small restaurants and pubs.
The Vecchia Pescheria in Rimini was built in the 18th century. It's an open space with its main facade facing onto the central Piazza Cavour. Through the central archway is a two-tier loggia with four small fountains at the corners and counters in white Istrian stone, where fishermen's wives once sold fresh fish. The two side entrances, meanwhile, are lined with small bars, pubs and restaurants.
Good to know
- The Vecchia Pescheria is one of the most characteristic spots in Rimini's nightlife scene, popular with young people and students. From Piazza Cavour, just cross the square to find a block of bars and pubs known to locals as "cantinette".
- The four fountains were used to clean the fish.
- The best-selling fish were clams, known in Romagna as "poveracce".
